This late-1700s Hubbardston home required more than a standard roof replacement because of its original log framing and unusual ventilation needs.
What We Found
The attic had log rafters and a solid tree-trunk ridge beam, making a conventional ridge vent impractical. We also discovered that deteriorated areas along the tops of the rafters were preventing standard roofing spikes from holding the plywood securely.
What We Corrected
Working with the home’s existing soffit intake, we installed a roof-mounted solar exhaust fan and four large venting hoods. We then secured the roof sheathing to the log rafters using 4-inch heavy-duty pan-head lag screws, creating a solid surface for the new roof.

This nearby Winchendon project included a complete architectural asphalt-shingle roof replacement designed for long-term performance in New England weather. The clean finished ridge line and consistent installation demonstrate what a properly coordinated roofing system should look like.
